Six New Scholarships Established To Support Triangle Students
Online, June 10, 2011 (Newswire.com) - National Pawn is proud to announce the endowment of six new scholarships for students in Triangle schools: Durham County Public Schools (DCPS), Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) and Garner High School in Wake County. New scholarships for DCPS and OCPS are in addition to the two scholarships National Pawn has been awarding to students in Garner since 2009.
"I am a product of the public school system and I needed financial assistance to attend college," said Bob Moulton, owner of National Pawn. "I am proud to be giving back in multiples what was given to me. This is how the system should work."
Each school district has autonomy to award the scholarships as they see fit. The only criteria requested by Moulton is that the students receiving the awards be deserving and show indications that they will be successful in their pursuit of post-secondary studies. OCPS is awarding their scholarships directly, while DCPS and Garner High School have community groups dedicated to supporting education that will be overseeing the funds and distribution of the awards.
OCPS and the Garner Education Foundation, the group administering Garner High School's funds, will be giving awards this year. The organization overseeing the funds for DCPS, the Durham Public School Scholarship Foundation will begin disbursing funds in 20012.
"Bob Moulton is a tremendous ambassador for education in the Garner community. As soon as the National Pawn store opened in Garner, Bob personally approached the Garner Educational Foundation with the idea of giving the scholarships to students who demonstrated both outstanding academic merit and financial need," said Amy White, chairperson, Garner Educational Foundation. "National Pawn has done well in Garner, and Bob has generously offered to share his financial success with students whose post-secondary choices might be limited due to their family income. We are so thankful to Bob and to National Pawn for the outstanding example the company has demonstrated to our community about what it means to give back."
