SmartSense™ Launches The First Microwave Oven Anti-Radiation Protection Cover To Block Potential Radiation Leakage

Online, March 6, 2011 (Newswire.com) - SmartSense™ was founded two sisters who quit their day jobs to become mompreneurs. They designed a practical solution to overcome their concerns about radiation leakages that may occur from microwave ovens.
A SmartSense™ cover works by blocking potential electromagnetic radiation leakage from the glass panel or side seals of the microwave oven door. The cover features a one-size-fits-all design that can accommodate most sizes of household counter top microwave ovens. It is simple to use, taking less than a minute to fit onto the microwave oven. Once the cover is on, there is no need to remove it as it is held in place by high powered magnets.
The cover lining is made from a specialized fabric that is a blend of cotton and interwoven with metallic (stainless steel) fibers. The cover's innovative and patent-pending design has been tested by an independent lab to confirm its radiation-blocking abilities. Designed with families in mind, the covers are durable and can be washed with no adverse impact on performance.
SmartSense™ covers were conceived after the sisters realized there had to be a better way to stop their children from standing and gazing directly in front of the microwave oven window while making food. Co-Founder Klara says "We were first motivated to keep our families safe and then it became clear that there was an opportunity and more importantly, a need for a product like this. So, we began a year of research, development and testing."
While conducting research on microwave radiation, the sisters found there are several possible ways that a microwave oven can leak radiation including: repeatedly slamming the oven door, basic wear-and-tear and old or faulty door seals. Any of these can cause the seal enclosure to separate from the microwave door and potentially be less effective in keeping in the radiation. When asked about leak detectors, co-founder Klara says "From what we know, these gadgets have not been proven to be accurate (some need calibrating), nor would it be practical to use them, as you would have to frequently conduct checks."
What concerns the sisters most is "what are the cumulative long term effects on our bodies and how do we know if the current regulations about leakage are even safe over long periods of time?" The sisters also found data that showed some microwave ovens required repairs after two years of use. From this, Klara says "we realized that many people we know may not even be aware that microwave ovens need repair." Microwave oven radiation is odorless and colorless, so you may not even realize your oven is leaking.
Co-founder Audrey adds, "Should we therefore continue to expose ourselves to microwave radiation until studies if ever, are conducted? She adds "So the debate can continue just like the debate with the dangers of cell phone radiation. Not everyone will believe in the danger, but as mothers, we are not prepared to take chances."
Today, the sisters each have their own families and are both living in Asia where the company is currently based. "One of the key reasons we decided to base SmartSense™ covers in Asia is to ensure quality control", said Klara. She adds "Our fabric has been tested by an independent lab to block radiation while some of the factories we spoke to had no certification". The sisters are adamant that they launch a high quality product that can be trusted and works and are not taking any shortcuts in developing their product. All of the covers are made from high quality fabrics and the specialized EMF fabric is made in Taiwan.
