Some 2012-2103 BMW X5 and X6 Models Recalled

Beginning July, some BMW X5 and X6 crossovers will be subject to preventative recalls.

Some 2012-2013 BMW X5 and X6 drivers may be getting notifications in July to take their crossovers to be repaired by their dealer free of charge due to a potential manufacturing glitch. Only some 2012 diesel X5 models and 2013 X5 and X6 models are affected by this recall. 2,642 examples are being recalled for possibilities of power steering leaks. If this problem exists, the power steering fluid could leak onto the exhaust, potentially causing a fire in the engine compartment.

BMW has not received any reports of accidents or injuries due to this issue but rather discovered it during extreme testing in the US. Concerned owners can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or their local dealer.

The BMW X5 and X6 crossovers have grown in popularity this past year and have been impressing drivers with the fuel efficiency for their size. Only a small portion of the inventory will be preemptively recalled for a potential error. BMW of Watertown will be happy to discuss any questions or concerns customers may have about this recall.
