South Africa Adopts Body Worn Video for Parking Marshals
Sixteen of Reveal Media's body worn video products have been bought in South Africa. Reveal Media's CARMACAM RS2 and CARMA KIOSK have been bought by Street Parking Services in Cape Town, South Africa.
Online, April 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Zunade Loghdey, manager of SPS, bought fifteen body worn video cameras and one data management kiosk. SPS employs 200 parking marshals, each in charge of fifteen parking spaces. They record a driver's details when they park and take a fee for the time a driver wishes to park. The marshals may encounter aggression from motorists. Loghdey bought the cameras both as a deterrent to angry and errant motorists, but also to monitor the progress and professionalism of the marshals and encourage parking bye-law compliance. The CARMACAM RS2 has been praised for its public-facing camera, which is proven to reduce crime. This was an important factor for Loghdey in choosing a supplier. The "screen shown to motorists or perpetrators is a great deterrent," he said.
SPS also bought a CARMA KIOSK, which is an all-in-one docking, charging and uploading station for body worn video cameras. The kiosk can dock and charge up to sixteen cameras at once. It is loaded with a programme that automatically uploads and manages data. Uploaded recordings have an audit trail, which prevents tampering so that data can be used as evidence. Loghdey plans to use the kiosk and its programme, CARMA, to view recordings and ensure both the marshals and motorists are safe and compliant. "I believe strongly that Reveal Media will be a major boost all round to my business going forward," he said.
The Cape Town Municipal Police were thrilled that SPS has adopted these cameras. They participated in a demonstration of the system by Loghdey at his premises in the Cape Town CBE. "Our municipal Police absolutely loved it," he said; "weight, form factor and Kiosk capability especially." The units are light weight and self-contained in hardy leather cases so no wires get in the way.
Reveal Media says, "We are delighted that Street Parking Services has already seen the enormous benefits that body worn video systems can bring to lone worker safety and productivity."
