South Indian Coastal City Cochin To Witness Rendezvous Of World Rrenowned Experts On Epilepsy
The small coastal city Cochin in Kerala is all set to witness 13th Joint Annual Conference of Indian Epilepsy Association (IEA) and Indian Epilepsy Society (IES)-ECON 2012 in the month of February.
Online, February 8, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The small coastal city Cochin in Kerala is all set to witness 13th Joint Annual Conference of Indian Epilepsy Association (IEA) and Indian Epilepsy Society (IES)-ECON 2012 in the month of February.
The conference is jointly organized by the Indian Epilepsy Association Kochi (IEAK), the Kerala Association of Neurologists (KAN), and the Cochin Neurological Society (CNS).
Around 500 delegates are expected to attend the event from different parts of India and the SAARC countries.
National and international experts will discuss the various aspects of the diagnostic and management techniques in epileptology", said Dr. Rajendran, chairman organizing committee.
In addition, the association is in the process of developing patient registries for different neurological disorders like epilepsy and stroke with the help of international experts. Such registries will help to understand the mechanisms and risk factors behind these disorders in our population, he added.
Led by Prof. Solomon Moshe (USA), President of International League against Epilepsy (ILAE), Dr. Andrew Bleasel, President, Epilepsy Society of Australia and Dr.K.Radhakrishnan, Director, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute, a team of National and International epileptologists will impart hands-on training to post graduate students of neurology and early career neurologists.
The other prominent speakers include Dr. Simon Harvey (Australia), Dr. Kiyohioto Terada (Japan), Dr. Ernie Somerville( Australia), Dr. John Dunne (Australia), Dr. AN Prasad( Canada), Dr. Sunita Dergalust (USA) and Dr Satish Chandra (Director, NIMHANS, Bangalore) .
Epilepsy is an illness afflicting 1% of population the world over. But due to the social stigma associated with epilepsy, there is a lot of discrimination against persons with epilepsy (PWE) in areas of education, employment, marriage and even leisure pursuits.
During the Conference a dedicated session will be held on Epilepsy and Society for discussing the social, psychological and legal issues involved in the care of Epilepsy.
This will also be acting as another platform to acheve this goal of awerness.
