South Jersey Business Beat Recession with Barter

Waterford Works, NJ, January 18, 2009 - When the owner of a small dayspa wanted a new electric massage table to replace her old one, she turned used a centuries old tradition that's coming back into vogue - barter.

"When I saw it advertised on my trade exchange, I called my broker and had him grab it; it was exactly the type of hydraulic table I had been meaning to buy, but never had the cash," said Jennifer Jennings, owner of Absolute Haven Massage, Bodywork & Wellness. "Now we have a fantastic piece of equipment to better serve our customers."

"Barter is the original currency," says Michael Finnegan, Vice President of TBT (Today's Barter Technology). "People have been using barter and trade for eons; it's a recession and depression proof business strategy. Barter allows you to better manage your business finances and keep your business fiscally healthy, which gives you advantages other business don't have in today's economy."

Jennings used their trade dollars with her barter exchange to score a top-of-the-line hydraulic massage table from a chic spa in Boston. The spa needed to liquidate its inventory, and Jennings had been searching for a massage table upgrade at the right price. "The price of the table was $2200. We paid the $2200 in barter and the $275 broker fee in cash," Jennings said. "Being able to use barter for that equipment meant we could use our cash for the things we can't barter for, like our business insurance. Barter gives us so much leverage that we've been able to thrive in an economy that crushed others in our field."

Finnegan agrees. "Jenn told me that for every single barter client they've had, four cash clients came in just from referrals. And the advantages of barter don't end; you can get anything from limos & fine dinners to advertising, vacations, retail, office space... the possibilities are almost endless," he said. "That's my job - to find the goods and services our clients need to make their businesses work."
