Sperling Media Launches Semiconductor Engineering

Sperling Media Group today launched Semiconductor Engineering, a new online publication for chip and system design engineers.

Sperling Media Group today launched Semiconductor Engineering (www.semiengineering.com), a new online publication for chip and system design engineers. The site provides a deep dive into problems that engineers encounter in creating semiconductors, ranging from modeling complex chips to integrating intellectual property to avoiding meltdowns, as well as challenges in manufacturing and security. The site also covers technical, business and market trends.

Why the continued focus on semiconductors? "Software applications define the user experience, but it's the hardware that makes it all possible," says Ed Sperling, the site's editor in chief. "This is where the real innovation is happening, and it's where the most interesting problems in technology are being solved. Gadgets are getting smarter, more complex and more critical to our lifestyles. Semiconductors-systems on chip (SoCs) in particular-are at the heart of the latest and coolest electronics, from smart phones to automobiles, from data centers for cloud storage, all the way to ingested medical devices that provide real-time data about the human body. Semiconductors are at the epicenter of the Internet of Things."

Semiconductor Engineering is staffed by a team of seasoned journalists, engineers and scientists, including Ed Sperling, Ann Steffora Mutschler, Brian Bailey, Mark LaPedus, Katherine Derbyshire and Jeff Chappell-all veterans with solid reputations for developing well-researched stories. The site features rich content, including thousands of copyrighted articles written by this team over the past five years, as well as dozens of videos.

Ed Sperling, who will serve as editor in chief, was the founding editor of System-Level Design, Low-Power/High-Performance Engineering and Semiconductor Manufacturing & Design. He was formerly editor in chief of Electronic News and Electronic Business, and was a contributing writer at Forbes. He is the recipient of numerous awards for journalism excellence.

About Semiconductor Engineering
Semiconductor Engineering's mission is to be the voice of the engineer. It will ask the tough questions, deal with difficult technology issues, and provide a forum for all sides-engineers, scientists, researchers and vendors-to come together to discuss problems, possible solutions, and the future of technology.
