May Marks Skin Cancer Awareness Month and the Perfect Time for Skin Spot Checks

Spot It, Check It!

With one in five Americans destined to have skin cancer during their lifetime, this disease is both extremely common and successfully treatable when detected early. A simple spot check for suspicious spots and moles is quick, simple, painless and potentially life-saving. In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May, DermatologistOnCall® is encouraging everyone to pay attention to their skin, and if they spot something, to get it checked by a dermatologist.

According to the American Cancer Society, 80 percent of skin cancer biopsies are found to be benign and statistics show regular examinations and early detection are crucial to saving lives. Whether in the office or virtually through teledermatology, now is the time to have questionable spots and moles checked by a professional and pursue any necessary treatment. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer for young adults 25-29 years old, and it is the second most common form of cancer for adolescents and young adults 15-29 years old.
