Spring Cleaning Tips for the Cull-ophobic

Heaven Has Heels' Editor-In-Chief, Angela Gilltrap, shares her top five tips on spring cleaning your shoe closet.

For some, the idea of spring cleaning your shoe closet is about as appealing as a trip to the dentist however, keeping your heavenly heels organized, clutter-free and in good shape will not only increase their shelf life but make you a happier (and better dressed) human being. In order to make the process a little smoother, Heaven Has Heels' Editor-In-Chief Angela Gilltrap shares her Top 5 tips on how to maximize space, avoid culling pitfalls and make way for new shoes.

1. KNOW IT'S FOR THE GREATER GOOD
The reality is, by cleaning out your shoe closet you are going to find heels you forgot you owned. Think of it as a treasure hunt or a trip down memory lane rather than a chore.

2. MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE
They deserve your love and attention. Don't let your favorite shoes waste away under a pile of dust. Regular maintenance of your shoes—having minor repairs, giving them a good polish ect.—will ensure they last the test of time.

A CLUTTER FREE CLOSET MAKES FOR A STRESS FREE MORNING
We've all been there, the caffeine hasn't kicked in, you've pressed the snooze button one too many times, your outfit is having a serious identity crisis... Having your shoes organized by color and style will ensure your morning goes a lot smoother. I organize mine by color and use. Glitter heels at the top, fabulous (yet comfortable) heels at the bottom ready to get up and go.

PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW
Shoes tend to be an emotional purchase—possibly because of the price we are willing to pay for them but if you haven't worn them, you aren't going to wear them and they are taking up room for other, more style-worthy options then turn your clutter into cash. I've always found selling your unwanted purchases on ebay helps alleviate the pain of parting.

THEY'RE ART NOT SHOES
I have a few pairs of United Nude shoes that are a work of art. I don't want to sell them or give them away but they are definitely once-a-year wear. Instead of hiding them away I have them on display on a custom built shelf above the wardrobe where they can be admired for what they are, much more than a shoe.
