Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz Spills the Beans to SUCCESS Magazine

STARBUCKS CEO HOWARD SCHULTZ SPILLS THE BEANS TO SUCCESS MAGAZINE ON HOW HE REKINDLED THE HEART AND SOUL THAT BUILT THE ICONIC COFFEE BRAND

Lately, there's not been a more classic example of a business leader retaking the reins of the company he founded to see it through a difficult transformation than Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks.

Restoring Starbucks' financial health was one thing, but maintaining its special culture was quite another. Schultz tells SUCCESS magazine, in its April 2011 issue: "I didn't come back to save the company-I hate that description-I came back to rekindle the emotion that built it."

According to Schultz, the pain and challenges of leading change worked to strengthen Starbucks' core. "You have to have the right strategy, the right people around you and a little luck," he says. "Certain moments in the transformation had a type of galvanizing topspin associated with them that we didn't understand at the time."

The "Leading Change" issue of SUCCESS also includes a feature on former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, who chose reinvention over retirement, then got to work on some of the world's most intractable problems. Find out what Carter has been keeping himself busy with the past 30 years and discover some of his simple routines for success.
The issue also includes a profile of legendary Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski; a feature on how leaders must evolve to remain effective; ideas on how to clear the clutter and optimize your workspace; plus best-selling author Seth Godin outlines seven ways to reinvent yourself.

The SUCCESS CD inserted in each magazine features publisher Darren Hardy's interviews with Seth Godin, who explains how three little words, "Do, don't say," can make all the difference in not only being a great leader but an authentic one as well, and John C. Maxwell, who discusses the greatest challenge anyone faces as a leader. The issue hits newsstands Tuesday, March 8, 2011.
