Statement From Fragrance Creators Association Celebrating the Legacy of Linda M. Katz, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P.

Fragrance Creators Association's (FCA) President and CEO Farah K. Ahmed issued the following statement celebrating the remarkable career and legacy of Linda Katz, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., who will retire on January 11, 2025, after more than 22 years as the Director of the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Office of Cosmetics and Colors (OCAC):

"Dr. Katz's values-driven leadership has been transformative. Her efforts at FDA have advanced fragrance science and addressed critical issues like fragrance allergen safety in cosmetics, enhancing consumer safety through robust scientific assessments and industry and public education. She was instrumental in preparing the groundwork for key regulatory advancements, including the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA), which reflects her commitment to ensuring that regulatory frameworks evolve to meet the needs of modern consumers and industries. She played a pivotal role in FDA activities to educate stakeholders about fragrance allergens, fostering better understanding and collaboration across the fragrance value chain. Her tenure has been a testament to the idea that science is not only a tool for compliance but a means to foster trust and deliver meaningful contributions to society.

As we celebrate Dr. Katz's incredible career, we also welcome Prashiela Manga, Ph.D., who has been named Acting Director of OCAC. Dr. Manga brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, ensuring a smooth transition and continued focus on advancing science-based regulation.

FCA remains deeply grateful for Dr. Katz's service and unwavering dedication. Her contributions have shaped not only the fragrance sector but also the broader conversation around safety and innovation. As she transitions to a new chapter, we wish her all the best and commit to continue serving as a trustworthy, responsive, and reliable resource to Dr. Manga and her team to build upon the strong foundation Dr. Katz has laid."
