Stax Museum in Memphis Offering Free Admission to Federal Employees During Government Shutdown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. , January 17, 2019 (Newswire.com) - The Stax Museum of American Soul Music announced today that it is joining with other area arts organizations and attractions to offer free admission to all federal employees with I.D. badge during the duration of the current United States government shutdown. The Stax Museum will waive the regular $13 admission for any employee with an I.D. badge from any federal government department in the country plus one guest until the government shutdown is over.

Stax Museum spokesman Tim Sampson said, “With all the problems the government shutdown is causing to federal workers and their families, we’d like to offer them a little love and happiness at the Stax Museum, which is definitely an upbeat, fun, and entertaining experience for all who visit. We welcome them to our dance floor, our recreation of the famed Stax Records’ recording Studio A, and to see Isaac Hayes’ 1972 Peacock Blue, gold-trimmed, fur-lined Cadillac Eldorado spinning in all its glory. We hope we can bring some joy during this time of despair.”

The free admission offer comes through an initiative started by ArtsMemphis, the local grant making organization working to sustain Memphis’ world-renowned cultural vitality and strengthen local communities through the arts.
