Online, August 21, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Award winning, St. Louis based Internet strategy, design and development firm, SteadyRain announces its collaboration with The Hart Island Project, a non-profit organization and Studio AIRPORT in the Netherlands. The effort is intended to help families around the world celebrate and memorialize loved ones buried in New York's City Cemetery on Hart Island in Bronx, NY.
The Hart Island Project contacted SteadyRain to build custom software to allow for people around the world to add stories for an estimated 65,000 people buried on Hart Island since 1980. The organization requested an online solution for activating an on-line database of burials allowing families and friends of the buried to post information about their loved ones. The solution includes a simple and efficient administrative portal to monitor these updates.
"We're honored to help the Hart Island Project give a virtual voice to those who, otherwise, may have been forgotten," commented Jim Murphy, SteadyRain Senior Internet Strategist. "This is a project that means a lot to the entire team."
The web application is the result of a 2011 New Technology Award from the highly competitive New York State Council on the Arts. The project has now entered the final stages of development with SteadyRain. Site users will interact with digital clocks that stop when a story is added to the on-line database. The site will be called the Traveling Cloud Museum. It was recently written about in Public Art Review, The Art of Healing.
"SteadyRain was the most qualified and creative software developer we could find after a long search." said Melinda Hunt, Executive Director, The Hart Island Project. "We feel very lucky indeed."
SteadyRain and The Hart Island Project expect a successful project launch this fall and envision increased traffic to the organization's website, enhanced community engagement and the forging of additional positive connections with family members of those buried on the island.
