Sterlite Distributes Course Completion Certificates To Students Of Coastal Livelihood Project

Online, December 30, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Sterlite Industries (I) Ltd (SIIL) distributed the course completion certificates to the students of Sterlite Coastal Livelihood Project here on Friday. Rev.P.S.Samuel Selvaraj, Treasurer, Thoothukudi - Nazareth Diocese distributed the certificates to 75 beneficiaries who have undergone various courses under the project.
The Coastal Livelihood Project has been undertaken by Sterlite at a cost of Rs 11 lakh as part of its community outreach programme. The project includes courses in Shipping Management & Office automation, Food Production, Beautician & Cosmetics, Tailoring and hand embroidery.
Speaking on the occasion, Col.Krishnan Srinivasan, General Manager, Sterlite said, "Sterlite started the Coastal Livelihood Project with an aim to create employability among the coastal youth in the district." He also added that the employability of the vocational courses supported by the Sterlite has gone up to 70%. Sterlite has spent Rs 50 lakh for the project since 2007 and has trained 1500 coastal youth under various courses.
Sterlite's other initiatives to promote education is sponsoring students to pursue higher education every year, presenting scholastic excellence awards to district toppers, providing free notebooks and uniforms to over 1700 students of evening study centres to encourage students from villages to pursue education, improving infrastructure in schools of Tuticorin.
Rev.Mrs.Eben Jason Selvakumar, Secretary, Women's Fellowship, Thoothukudi - Nazareth Diocese, Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head - Corporate Social Responsibility and Mrs.Suganthi Chelladurai, Associate Manager - Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite were present.
