Phone makers like Apple spend millions of dollars on industrial design, which we immediately cover up with generic-looking cases. Phone case industry veteran, Newvit, is recreating itself with the new STIL line of cases for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, bringing high fashion and functionality to your smartphone.

STIL cases include high-end and experimental materials, allowing for multi-layered designs that provide style, protection and convenience. Rather than simply printing artwork on the back of a plain case, the art is now in the design of the case itself.

"With STIL, I've had total freedom to try new things. My background is in fashion design and I've carried over the same techniques to designing cases for phones. It isn't like designing a piece of hardware. It's like designing clothes for a phone. Our team has experimented with lots of new ideas and the ones that have gone into production are truly interesting and unique."

Narry Kim, Lead Designer

To achieve these industry-changing designs, STIL assembled a team of more than ten designers with experience in both fashion and industrial design. The design process is modeled after the fashion industry. Every case in the STIL lineup is inspired by a muse, whether it is an Italian leather handbag, an iconic piece of furniture or even a pair of colorful running shoes.

The Gentleman case, for example, was inspired by a smart tweed suit, with Glen Check fabric covering the back. As every gentleman should be prepared to an impromptu serenade, a hidden sound channel amplifies and equalizes the iPhone’s audio. An inner liner of shock-absorbent thermoplastic polyurethane protects the phone against drops, while a stitch-patterned bezel around the front edge protects the screen.

Liberta was inspired by the runway fashions of Milan. An outer layer of the finest Italian lambskin envelops the phone in softness, while a brushed metallic frame and inner layer of shock-absorbent Polyurethane ensure maximum protection. The lambskin is dyed to resemble a number of colors like ruby red and cobalt blue, and exotic materials like snakeskin and alligator skin.

“With STIL, I’ve had total freedom to try new things,” said Narry Kim, one of the lead designers for the STIL phone cases. “My background is in fashion design and I’ve carried over the same techniques to designing cases for phones. It isn’t like designing a piece of hardware. It’s like designing clothes for a phone. Our team has experimented with lots of new ideas and the ones that have gone into production are truly interesting and unique.”

Newvit, the company behind the STIL brand has been making phone cases since 1988, when mobile phones were either carry-along boxes or bolted into cars. They honed their skills over decades of making cases for top brands like Samsung and Verizon Wireless. Now they are applying their expertise to make cases that are as fashionable as they are protective.

“Every day you meticulously select the clothing you’ll wear to show off your personality. But one item you carry with you almost never changes to fit the occasion: your phone,” said Gi-seop Shin Newvit’s CEO. “Protecting your investment shouldn’t mean hiding it beneath a plain case, so we’ve set out to create the world’s most beautiful phone cases, adopting an inspiration-based design process from the fashion industry.”

STIL cases are separated into three lines.

  • Pavis cases have minimalist designs that are inspired by nature and accented by repeated geometric motifs. Earthy colors like brown and beige perfectly complement wood and leather than have been distressed to give them a more natural patina.
  • Hoplon cases are offbeat and edgy. They combine a futuristic pearlescent shine with bright splashes of bold color that are sure to stand out. Their personality is fun and witty.
  • Targa cases mix avant garde designs with traditional craftsmanship, featuring strongly defined geometry and metallic accents that add a touch of shine. The premium leather and polished metal are of the highest quality.

For its launch, STIL has collaborated with three dozen trendsetting bloggers and Instagrammers, to visually interpret the cases by incorporating them into their own fashion shoots. A few notable names include Olia Majd, Shannon Ables, Candy Washington and Denny Balmaceda.

They are also launching the very first Mobile Fashion Week themed website that puts each phone case into the hands of models on an interactive virtual runway, as visitors scroll through the site. From December 1 through January 10 (PST), customers can get up to 40 percent off the regular retail price of STIL cases for iPhone 6 and 6s. As part of the brand’s introductory offer, all sales on Amazon will be discounted 20 percent. To get an additional 20 percent discount, customers can visit the Mobile Fashion Week website (http://www.stilmind.com/mfw-iphone6s/) and scroll through the fashion show to reveal a special promotional code at the end.
