Story of a Six Year Old Who Was Diagnosed With Cerebral Palsy When She Was 6 Months Old
Six month old diagnosed with cerebral palsy, gets better after stem cell therapy. The patient was treated by Dr. Alok Sharma at Navi Mumbai's NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute.
Navi Mumbai, India, November 23, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Cerebral palsy is an abnormality of motor function and postural tone that is acquired at an early age, even before birth. Signs and symptoms of cerebral palsy appear in the very first year itself. It is reported that 13 out of 14 cases of cerebral palsy in India, the brain injury leading to cerebral palsy occurs in the uterus or before baby is one month old. Hurrain Mulla is one of the many such cerebral palsy patients diagnosed with cerebral palsy in her very early years of life. Her parents consulted many doctors and tried many therapies, but they availed little or no results.
Finally, they came across Dr. Alok Sharma and Dr. Nandini Gokulchandran at Neurogen Brain and Spine Institute. Dr.Sharma introduced them to the concept of regenerative medical treatment in the form of stem cell therapy, for cerebral palsy patients.
Hurrain’s mother says,”Accepting our problems is one thing, but losing hope over them is not. Even if there is a 5% or 10% chance of things looking brighter, we should grab them and move on in life.”
Hurrain’s parents approached NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute in February of 2012. After an initial examination, it was discovered that Hurrain couldn’t stand on her own feet. She couldn’t even look straight at her parents. She underwent stem cell therapy in July 2012. Along with the therapy, she was also put on an extensive rehabilitation program. The program was designed with achievable and iterative milestones that can be tracked by her parents in day to day life. Post stem cell therapy, Hurrain has shown tremendous improvements. She can now stand on her own and can look straight at people. Before she came to NeuroGen, it took a great deal of effort for Hurrain to hold anything in her hands. Three months after the therapy she now has an improved grip on her pen. The rigidity in her legs had also reduced.
After noticing the improvements, her parents decided to give her another round of stem cell therapy. The results were phenomenal. Her drooling stopped. She sucks and chews food on her own. She tries to talk, shuffle and move around. She even drinks water and eats biscuits. She finally reached many milestones that a child should reach.
Stem cell therapy has delivered results for Hurrain and her family. It has given her a chance for an improved quality of life and reduced her dependence on others for most basic things. Hurrain now has a shot at a normal life once again.
