Strategic Appointment Spearheads Growth At Altius Vendor Assessment

Supplier accreditation and assessment business makes key appointment to prepare for further expansion.

Paul Backx has joined Altius Vendor Assessment (www.altiusva.com) as Business Development Director to spearhead growth for the Derby-based supplier management business.

Altius manages supplier assessment and accreditation for leading organisations such as Airbus, Selfridges, SGP Property and Facilities Management, Arcadia Group, Punch Taverns, Wolseley, B&Q, Arcadia Group and Superdrug. The company, which recently won the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) Award for Innovation in Technology and Systems, helps companies to reduce procurement costs, minimise supply chain risk and liability and improve standards.

Paul was formerly Managing Director of energy procurement and management business Utility Auditing Ltd, which he sold to sustainable power group ENER-G Plc. His company was engaged by the Carbon Trust to deliver energy assessments and reduce carbon footprints, and was a founder member of the Utilities Intermediaries Association, which is responsible for improving procurement standards within the industry.

He is a member of the Institute of Directors, and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, which he attained whilst working in the private sector delivering services involved in the disposal of hazardous waste and in raising standards of hygiene in commerce, industry and the public sector. In addition to assessing risks to health, he is also concerned with improving awareness in all aspects of corporate social responsibility.

Gary Plant, Managing Director of Altius Vendor Assessment said: "Paul's strategic appointment is key to our UK and European expansion. He brings with him a wealth of experience to attract new clients and develop new business opportunities for our Altius Assured vendors, who have proved their outstanding credentials by undergoing our rigorous evidence-based assessment. At a time when businesses are seeking to reduce cost yet improve performance standards, the Altius solution is extremely attractive and we anticipate rapid growth in the year ahead.

Paul Backx added: "Through relieving the procurement burden and improving supply chain performance while decreasing risk and liability - all at no cost to clients - we are attracting much interest from large corporations across Europe. They are impressed by our robust assessment procedures and the access they gain to quality suppliers. This is an exciting time to join Altius as we strive to become the number one vendor assessment company in the UK & Europe."

Altius' flexible online accreditation and management system is based around five 'globes' representing the key business areas of risk management, commercial, corporate social responsibility, quality and customer service. Accreditation can be based on some or all of the globes, dependent on the requirements of the client, and questions tailored on an individual basis, as appropriate to the tasks a particular supplier will undertake.
