Strategic Refocusing on Internship Programs

Neil Halloran Named the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business Internship Coordinator

Adelphi University proudly announces Neil Halloran, President of Halloran & Associates, Inc., as the Internship Coordinator in the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business. Mr. Halloran has been a Senior Adjunct Professor at Adelphi University for more than nine years, teaching graduate-level classes including the MBA program with specialization in Health Services Administration courses offered to doctors and surgeons in area hospitals and GOAL classes; he is an active member of the Adelphi University Business Advisory Board. As an internship coordinator, he will now be monitoring the internship process, working closely with business majors to prepare them for an enriching internship experience, and communicating with companies to find paid as well as unpaid for-credit internship placements for students.

Mr. Halloran plans to develop the necessary infrastructure and build a program to streamline the process of applying for internships. "What I plan to develop is not only an internship program, but to build a mentoring program," he emphasizes, "this will allows students to gain business experience along with the benefits of mentorship." Mr. Halloran believes that having a formal internship program through the school will make the process measurable. On one hand, the school will be able to keep a record of the interns and their placements; on the other hand, developing a formal program will help monitor and evaluate the progress of the students throughout their internship period. He says, "We are not just looking for numbers, we will be screening placements and mentoring students before the internship to prepare them for challenging roles." Mr. Halloran will primarily be meeting students on a one-to-one appointment basis.

Mr. Halloran has an extensive background in sales, marketing, education and consulting. He spent 20 years in IBM in various management and executive positions. While in IBM, he was the director of IBM's Advanced Business Institute and worked with senior IBM executives, implementing an innovative leadership curricula for the IBM executive team. He is even credited by the former Governor of Maine, John R. McKernan, Jr. with transforming leadership and increasing the effectiveness of his staff. After IBM, Mr. Halloran joined 1800Flowers.com as their senior director of corporate training and executive development where he was recognized by Forbes for his accomplishment in training and consulting. He then founded the consulting firm of Halloran & Associates, Inc. with Fortune 500 companies as clients. He has created innovative courses in Negotiation and Persuasive Communications for physician and surgeons representing St. Francis Hospital, and has lectured and taught at various universities, including Harvard College, Harvard Business School, Cornell University, New York University, Babson College, and Baruch College.
