Stratton Craig 'invests in the Future' of Pupils at Hendon School
Online, May 13, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Inspiring pupils to break into their chosen industries takes more than just studying. Harriette Hobbs, Client Director at Stratton Craig, was at the 'Invest in our Future' event at Hendon School, London, last week to help pupils understand what it really means to be a copyhttp://www.strattoncraig.co.uk/writer.
Harriette was delighted to take part in the event. She said: "I was particularly impressed because 'Invest in our Future' was organised by the students, of their own accord.
"Chatting to them showed just how committed they are to breaking into their chosen industries, and it's great for Stratton Craig to be able to help prepare the next generation of professionals."
Harriette was invited to participate by a pupil from the school, who took the time to call her directly. Having been impressed by the student's enthusiasm, she found herself discussing careers in copywriting with a large number of interested pupils, who were keen to learn how to take their first steps into the industry.
Harriette was so impressed that she has invited a student from the school to complete a work experience placement at Stratton Craig in the summer.
A successful school in the London Borough of Barnet, Hendon's pupils consistently achieve great results, and the school has been rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. But in spite of their talent, many pupils lack industry contacts and therefore struggle to find work opportunities. This is often down to external factors, as around 60 percent of the pupils do not speak English as their first language, and approximately 30 percent are eligible for free school meals.
Showing dedication that would impress any employer, the pupils at Hendon School decided to take matters into their own hands. They invited 25 business leaders to attend the 'Invest in our Future' event, which they took the initiative to organise in conjunction with North London Citizens.
'Invest in our Future' took place on the evening of April 30, and kicked off with speech by Matthew Offord, MP for Hendon, who made clear his admiration for the pupils who had arranged the event. The students then visited various tables representing career fields that were of particular interest to them. Budding scientists were able to quiz a successful chemical engineer, gifted filmmakers met with a real producer, and passionate writers got the chance to discuss their prospects with Harriette.
