Stroke Survivor's Memoir 'I'm a Little Brain Dead' by Kimberly Davis Basso Honored With Humor Awards

'I'm a Little Brain Dead'

I’m a Little Brain Deadthe memoir of stroke survivor Kimberly Davis Basso, received multiple awards in humor and memoir including Writer’s Digest Magazine 2018 Life Stories Honorable Mention, Finalist in Humor in the 2018 Readers Favorite Book Awards, Finalist in Humor in the 2018 International Book Awards and a Top Ten Book of the Year for Amy’s Bookshelf Book Reviews. I’m a Little Brain Dead was also recommended by the National Stroke Association in their national e-magazine Stroke Smart.

Called "one of the funniest books I have ever enjoyed" (Julia Simpson-Urrutia) and displaying a “wicked, wicked, sense of humor” (Cathy Speight), Basso’s book invites the reader into her brain for an intimate view of a middle-aged stroke patient. Alone with her children when the medical crisis struck, Basso stuck to the family motto – panicking never helps. Packed with details (she wrote while she was hospitalized), I’m a Little Brain Dead delivers wit and wisdom in a brutally honest patient point of view.

How many wildly honest, heartbreakingly human, hysterically funny memoirs have you read about having a stroke? Exactly! Do yourself a favor and jump into Basso's brain immediately and hang on for the ride of your life.

Basso is in good health after her stroke and subsequent heart surgery and now speaks on behalf of the American Heart Association in Ventura County, helping raise awareness and funds for stroke prevention and treatments. One in four stroke patients is under the age of 50, a fact Basso shares in her talks and book signings. She also speaks with parent groups to help them prepare their children for a medical emergency like hers. As part of National Stroke Day (Oct. 29, 2018), her website www.KimberlyDavisBasso.com includes tips and forms for families to use to prepare for medical emergencies.
