Suburban Moms Share How They Really Feel

BOSTON, January 15, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Stacy Swider had to make a video to promote her band, and knew she wanted to use their original song “Woman of Steel.” But how to proceed? Thanks to a friend with laryngitis, she happened upon the idea of various women holding written signs describing what makes them a woman of steel. “It would have been ideal to showcase people from around the world, but for expediency, I focused on our local community.” The video starts out in a traditional fashion, showing the band playing instruments while lip synching. But then it takes a sudden, moving turn. “Double parent, Widow” says a sign held by the first guest. “I am not your stereotype,” says another, held by a prominent native American activist.

Other signs are held by stroke and cancer survivors, by a VP of Engineering, a plasma physicist, a playwright, a business owner. One shot shows a team representing the environmental advocacy group Mothers Out Front. There are also multiple mother-daughter pairs. “Real life is very different from a television show. These women may appear to be just folks, but they have passionate hearts and complex lives, and put a lot into their work, and into their community,” says Ms. Swider.
