Elgin Country Club also had three Honorary Junior Members qualify for the State Finals from their respective high schools. Honorary Junior Members are high school students who are not members of Elgin Country Club who have applied for and received an Honorary Junior Membership. This membership is based on academic standing, community service, association and dedication to the game of golf. Honorary Junior Members are allowed to use the golf facilities at the Club, and receive mentoring from the Golf Professionals (for more information on the Honorary Junior Membership program, please contact Jon Duppler, Head Golf Professional, at 847-622-4815). These students are: Blake Poremba (St. Edwards, tied 53rd place, State Finals), Ryan Dicristofano (St. Edwards, 107th place, State Finals), and Matt Allison (Burlington Central, tied 93rd place, state finals).

Overall, Burlington Central and St. Edwards teams, comprised of mostly Elgin Country Club Junior Golf participants and Honorary Junior Members, did well at the Sectional and State levels. Burlington Central placed third in their sectional, and ninth in Boys Golf Class 2A State Finals. The St. Edwards team, which was comprised of all Elgin Country Club players, placed second in their sectional and third place overall in the Boys Golf Class 1A State Finals. Congratulations to all the participants in the IHSA golf Regional, Section and State competitions this year.

Junior Golf has been a program at Elgin Country Club for over 50 years. The program's success can be seen in the number of participants who do well in high school tournaments and continue playing golf competitively in college. Several participants have received scholarships to college. The instruction they receive through the program as well as the playing time are critical to their success in golf. In the past 10 years, the Junior Golf Program at the Elgin Country Club has produced approximately 25 state finalists.

The Elgin Country Club Junior Golf Program runs in June and July, and is open to members' children ages five to 17. This year approximately 100 kids participated in the program. The kids are broken up into age groups and are given instruction once a week by golf professional staff at Elgin: Jon Duppler, PGA Professional; Dave Sahs, PGA Apprentice; and Matt Wojciechowski, PGA Apprentice. At the end of the instruction every week, the kids play the number of holes at the club appropriate to their ages.
The program will start up again in 2011. For more information, please contact the Elgin Country Club Golf Shop at 847-741-2707. Those interested in joining the Elgin Country Club can contact Membership Director, Michael Storey.
