Successful TV Writer/Producer Moves To The Internet
Bob Fraser, the popular writer/producer of such shows as Benson, Full House and The Love Boat is now distributing his work via the internet.
Online, October 22, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Bob Fraser who wrote and produced several TV hits during the last decades of the 20th century has moved to the internet in the 21st.
"It's the most exciting medium now." he says.
Known mostly for his comedy writing on The Love Boat in the 70's, Benson in the 80's and Full House in the 90's Fraser now works exclusively in the digital world of the web. He started his new direction by offering a digital book entitled The Acting Book. This book to help actors with their careers is only available as a digital download and Bob is enthusiastic about the possibilities.
"It's an incredible medium. When I wrote for television, I knew that there were a lot of folks in the audience, but I rarely heard from them individually. The great thing about the internet is the opportunity to really 'talk' to the audience and get a response. Interactivity is both the fun and the challenge of the 'net."
His book is just the beginning, he insists. "I started with the book for two reasons. First, over the years, I promised many actors that I would write it. Secondly, it's a good way to learn the internet culture. It took me several years to learn how to write for television - to learn the culture. Same with the internet."
His next project is a bit more ambitious. "I want to write and produce a comedy series for the internet. I know it's been tried, but I think I have a formula in mind that will find wide acceptance."
Fraser is no stranger to technological leaps. In the early eighties he started using beta-cams to record Benson (the first to use that technology in an entertainment production). He also one of the pioneers in the use of computers in the production process. He remembers the executives at 20th Century Fox were perplexed in April of 1980 when Fraser turned in a commissioned screenplay on a 5 inch floppy.
"The joke was on me. The studio didn't have computers yet. I had to pay someone to re-type it, after I wrote the entire thing on my IBM."
When asked about the premise of the series he's working on, Fraser becomes a bit secretive, "I can't say much about the show, but I'll tell you this, it's going to be funny. Like Willie Sutton said, that's where the money is."
