Sugar Artists Unite to Support the Global Fund
A collaboration of 176 sugar artists who have come together to spread awareness for World AIDS Day and donations for The Global Fund. In an Online digital Art Gallery these Global citizens present edible works of art in the hopes that you will pause and take a moment to reflect on your own thoughts regarding those living with HIV/AIDS. The disease is still here and it is a GLOBAL issue.
Chicago, Illinois, December 2, 2015 (Newswire.com) - United Nations of Sugar Art was born out of necessity. I had “guilted” a group of my cake friends into doing a collaboration for a charity with me and as the group got larger and included more international Artists we started joking that we were the United Nations of the cake world. I realized that through UNSA I could provide volunteer opportunities for my fellow sugar artists and myself to have a voice against social inadequacies. I would do the legwork, research, and organizing so they could concentrate on creating edible art.
UNSA was created as an International organization that will determine a different Global cause to address annually. Through these yearly online Social Events we will raise awareness and fund-raise. We have grown into more than I could have ever hoped for and the support from the greater cake community has been immense. With over 200 members from 40 different countries and speaking several languages UNSA is truly a global coalition. We have also taken an innovative step by joining with Youtube personalities for the first time. Our Youtube friends have provided exclusive videos dedicated to #BeTeamRed. UNSA members can choose which years they want to participate in and support each other for every collaboration. Also, thank you to Satin Ice for your support and generous donation.
World AIDS Day is important as it reminds us all that HIV has not gone away and that collectively, there is the need to increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education. I saw Zawadi initiative / Collaboration as a wonderful opportunity to support this amazing cause. My cake represents what I would define as "ONE", exactly that! Let's unite worldwide and fight together, let's cherish and support one another, let's take care of our world as "ONE"!

UNSA may be my brainchild but it certainly would not be a success without an amazing team and friends that keep me from going bonkers! Louise Wolfenden Haythornthwaite is our Member Relations Officer. For the last 9 months she has helped us get to know each other and kept us engaged in our task by writing daily member spotlights. Sam Hebal has been helping our members find inspiration and organizing their ideas. Patty Stovall, our Press Relations Officer will help establish us as a visible organization all over the World. There are many others and I hope you all know how grateful I am to you.
This year, under the UNSA logo we will stand together as Team Be RED on December 1st to honor the importance of World AIDS Day.
We want to remember those lost to Aids and those still living with HIV and AIDS. We want to acknowledge that 600 children a day are infected with HIV through mother to child transmission. Finally we want to say, “no more” to the stigma and discrimination due to being HIV positive.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria has been waging war against AIDS since 2002 and it is our chosen charity for UNSA 2015. Over 200 Artists using edible mediums have volunteered their time, materials and talent to stand together to support the Global Fund.
“An International financing organization that partners governments, civil society, the private sector and people affected by the disease the The Global Fund mobilizes billions of dollars a year to support local programs.” - (RED)
What does this statement mean? The Global Fund makes sure that fund raising is done appropriately, donations gets to where they should, that the programs receiving the money are held accountable for their success or failure and that new initiatives are supported and implemented.
UNSA members have created works of art for you, our patrons to enjoy. It is our hope that these showpieces will cause you to pause and take a moment to reflect on your own thoughts regarding those living with HIV/AIDS.
