Sullivan Solar Power is Shining a Light Onto Today's Solar Industry

San Diego City College class receives solar energy demonstrations from local experts

Employees from San Diego-based solar firm Sullivan Solar Power recently teamed up with students from the Solar Energy Utilization Theory class at San Diego City College to share their knowledge and first-hand experience working in the solar industry. The class is part of required curriculum to receive a certificate of achievement in air conditioning, refrigeration and environmental control technology from the college. Sullivan Solar Power was asked to present to the class at the college and, afterward, extended an invitation to the students to visit Sullivan Solar Power’s San Diego headquarters.

Education is a focal point for Sullivan Solar Power, helping drive the company’s vision of fundamentally changing the way we generate electricity. Every day, its employees strive to be part of the solution by providing unbiased information to Southern California residents and businesses to assist them in declaring energy independence. During the classroom presentation, students asked Sullivan Solar Power about solar electrical equipment, code requirements, apprenticeships, battery storage, solar policy, the installation process and what it is like to work in the industry both in the field and at the office.

We are happy to mentor SDCC students, inspiring them to work in the clean energy section, making our world a brighter place.

“When I reached out to Sullivan Solar Power to assist me with local solar industry insight for my solar energy students at San Diego City College, Sullivan was quick to respond, helpful and accommodating to our class’ needs,” said Justin Bond, lead instructor for the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Environmental Control Technology course at San Diego City College. “They were very professional and knowledgeable in their areas of expertise and it was overall a community-building and enlightening experience for both the students and me.”

When the class visited the Sullivan Solar Power headquarters, the students were able to see and interact with the solar and battery equipment discussed in the class. In addition to viewing how a solar inverter communicates with the rooftop solar panels and the battery during the day and during a staged electricity blackout, the students had the opportunity to go up on the roof and view the installation.

“When I was an electrical student, extra training or insight into the solar industry was immensely beneficial in building my expertise and later, forming Sullivan Solar Power to lead the solar energy revolution,” said Daniel Sullivan, founder and president of Sullivan Solar Power, who is known for giving back and educating the community about solar. “We are happy to mentor SDCC students, inspiring them to work in the clean energy section, making our world a brighter place.”
