Sullivan Solar Power Selects 2019 Sustainable Future Scholarship Recipient
The annual award is presented to University of Illinois at Chicago student
SAN DIEGO, February 4, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Sullivan Solar Power has announced the winner of their annual student scholarship program. The 2019 scholarship will be awarded to Ms. Alexandra Baczynski who is beginning medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago, as part of the university's Urban Medicine Program. Ms. Baczynski was selected from a group of over 160 applicants, and will receive $2,000 towards her studies.
Sullivan Solar Power’s “Sustainable Future Through Solar Energy Scholarship” was developed by founder and president Daniel Sullivan to support high school seniors or current college students pursuing studies related to the field of sustainability. As a clean energy leader using his skills in the electrical trade, Mr. Sullivan has pursued his own vision to change the way the world generates electricity through solar power. He seeks to ensure that young people today have the same opportunity to pursue their dreams to secure a sustainable future. Furthermore, as a third-generation Irish American, Mr. Sullivan recognizes that much of the United States’ history is built on a foundation of the contribution of immigrants. He has incorporated that eligibility for the scholarship will include students with at least one parent or grandparent who is an immigrant to the United States.
Ms. Baczynski, the daughter to Polish immigrants, has dedicated both her studies and volunteerism to addressing environmental issues that result in impacts to human health. In her undergraduate degree at Loyola University of Chicago, Ms. Baczynski volunteered as a naturalist for the Cook County, Illinois, nature center, as well as hosting farmers markets and garden tours on the South Side of Chicago. After graduation, she volunteered at a free medical clinic in Maggotty, Jamaica, with an emphasis on understanding how environmental pollutants impact patient health and safety. Through her studies, Ms. Baczynski is placing an emphasis on environmental hazards and their inseparable impact on patient health. In addition, Ms. Baczynski has volunteered as a clean energy intern with the Environmental Law and Policy Center, where she helped assess the renewable energy potential of superfund sites and advocated for the Illinois Clean Jobs Bill. Ms. Baczynski will begin medical school at the University of Illinois, Chicago this year as part of the Urban Medicine Program.
“It is hard for me to put into words how grateful I am to everyone at Sullivan Solar Power,” said recipient Alexandra Baczynski. “This generosity will lift a substantial financial burden off of my shoulders and allow me to focus on my medical education and environmental outreach efforts on the west side of Chicago.”
