Superior Lighting Company Joins Forces with Local Companies to Help Cooperative Feeding Program

Superior Lighting donates material, time and labor to help a local charitable organization lower their overall cost of operations.

Local businesses and utilities understand the amazing contribution that a local feed back provides for their community. In an effort to help the Cooperative Feeding Program makes ends meet, Superior Lighting has joined forces with other socially conscious companies to give the food bank a complete energy make over that will help to substantially lower annual expenses.

The Cooperative Feeding Program in Broward County does what ever is in it's power to help local families in need, from providing nourishment to finding homes and even helping with training for jobs. With every dollar that an organization like the Cooperative Feeding Program has, there is more that it can do for those in need. In order to help bring down the overall cost of operations, Superior Lighting teamed up with Florida Power and Light and other local businesses to help the charitable organization cut down on an electric bill that was much higher than it needed to be.

Superior Lighting provided the materials and labor necessary to retrofit all of the existing exit signs at the Cooperative Feeding Program with LED bulbs. Each new LED bulb uses only one watt of electricity compared to the traditional exit bulbs which use 15 - this upgrade takes the overall energy consumption of an exit sign from 30 watts down to two. LED bulbs also have an incredible 20 year life expectancy, which means that the Cooperative Feeding Program won't have to worry about the hassle or cost of replacing those bulbs for the foreseeable future.

All existing 75 watt incandescent bulbs were replaced with high efficiency 18 watt compact fluorescent bulbs as well. The 18 watt compact fluorescent bulbs provide the very same quality and quantity of light while helping to save a substantial amount of energy per fixture. Compact fluorescent bulbs generally cost a bit more up front than incandescent bulbs, but with a much longer life and far less energy used the upgrade more than pays for the initial investment.

The final part of the energy saving lighting equation was to upgrade the existing T12 fluorescent light fixtures to more energy efficient T8 fluorescent fixtures. This switch saves 8 watts per bulb and the upgrade to the T8 electronic ballasts increases each light fixture's efficiency which results in even greater savings on utility bills.

The work and material provided by Superior Lighting, Florida Power and Light and the other local businesses should save the Cooperative Feeding Program of Broward County and estimated three thousand dollars a year on their utility bill. This dramatic cut in costs will allow them to help many more families and individuals who need a little bit of assistance getting back on their feet.
