Following morning keynotes, Mayor Jerry Sanders will open the technology expo where more than 20 companies will showcase business intelligence ( http://www.supermathconference.com ) solutions in a variety of fields including bioinformatics and predictive analytics ( http://www.supermathconference.com ).
Keynote speakers include: energy-policy analyst, transport economist and environmental activist Charles Komanoff, recently featured in Wired magazine; Brian Knauss, Director, Analytic Platforms, eBay; Cheryl Max, Director, Functional Capabilities, World Wide Demand Programs, IBM; Dr. Eric Topol, a pioneer in advancing individualized and wireless medicine; and Pamela Scanlon, Executive Director of San Diego's Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS). The expo of cutting-edge technologies will be showcased in four industry "neighborhoods" - Risk, Security and Fraud; Healthcare and Medicine; Media, Marketing and Social Networks, and Energy, Infrastructure and Clean Tech. As a recognized analytics cluster, San Diego is home to more than 100 area companies involved in creating new analytics technologies and services used nationally and internationally.
Among the more than 20 innovative predictive analytics technologies to be demonstrated are:
LinkedIn (social media beta test) -- Exclusively for SUPERMATH, LinkedIn will demo its new beta product called Signal, which provides a new way to consume information and news that's most relevant to professionals using its networking site. Signal is the first LinkedIn product aimed at helping professionals glean the most relevant insights from status updates and news. SUPERMATH attendees will be given access to the private beta so they can experience how their personal LinkedIn profiles create a more effective social search and news search engine, updated to the minute.
SPAWAR (ship and fire identification and mapping) -- The RAPid Image Exploitation Resource (RAPIER) uses advanced image algorithms to detect, classify and map ships and identify and map fires using high-resolution satellite imagery. In case of wildfires, the algorithms can locate thermal "hot spots" behind thick smoke. It is a valuable tool for first responders, disaster response coordinators, maritime law enforcement, and port authorities.
"We are very excited to be showcasing many of the new and innovative analytics applications being developed in the San Diego region and nationally," said Conference Chair Tom Clancy, a director of the San Diego Software Industry Council and Managing Director at Tao Venture Partners. "These applications are being used to analyze and optimize everything from traffic flow and roadway operations to laboratory research and wildfire burn rates and directions. This conference brings exciting stories to business and the general public about the significant roles and possibilities analytics present for creating a healthier, safer and more efficient world."
