Supply Chain Digital magazine Draws on Tompkins Associates to Detail "The Great Comeback"
Online, September 2, 2009 (Newswire.com) - James A. Tompkins, Ph.D., President and CEO of Tompkins Associates, contributed his expertise to the September issue of Supply Chain Digital magazine, found on SupplyChainDigital.com (www.supplychaindigital.com), to weigh in on "The Great Comeback." As an internationally known authority on global supply chain best practices, business planning and leadership, Dr. Tompkins indicates the economic recovery is in full swing and is calling on global supply chain organizations to formulate a plan for the rebound.
"By creating a sound economic recovery plan and using the innovation and resilience that are the trademarks of today's supply chains, smart companies will not only survive - they will become top-performing companies of tomorrow," Tompkins says as he outlines a five-step process to developing a comeback strategy, while cautioning businesses against a "wait and see" attitude.

Although GPS systems are increasingly becoming a driver's best friend, James Firth of the Freight Transport Association (FTA) says lorry drivers do not feel that SatNav caters to their needs, and yet it's this segment that could potentially have the most at stake in its future. Among the issues is the lack of input from local authorities, which, along with several other grievances, has prompted FTA to consult with leading SatNav companies to produce units more commercially sound.
"Units which lend a greater bias to major roads and, further down the line, offer preferred freight routes as identified by local authorities in consultation with the freight industry are what we must all be aiming for," says Firth in reference to one of the major areas currently being addressed by FTA.
