Surat To Have Its First Private University

Online, April 10, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The city of Surat, India has been known for its diamonds and textile industries. However, in the month of August 2011 Surat will have its first Private University which will open the doors of higher education to the students of the city and from across the country. Auro University is being established under the Gujarat State Private Universities Act, 2009

The Auro University is being promoted by Shri H P Rama who has given to the city of Surat it's first five Star Hotel The Gateway by Taj. Although his major business operations are concentrated in the United States under the banner of the JHM Hotels, Mr. Rama has always taken a keen interest in the growth and prosperity of Surat. His commitment to the city has now transformed into the creation of the Auro University. According to Mr. H P Rama, President of the University, there should not be a need for the students from Surat to have to go to any other State for Higher Education. His vision is to create one of the Nation's top private University in Surat which is bench marked with the best in the world with state-of-the-art infrastructure and international standards in education. Auro University has also entered into a technical collaboration with the University of South Carolina in areas of curriculum development, student exchange, research and faculty training and exchange. Students in the undergraduate programs at Auro University will be able to take a credit transfer to University of South Carolina after completing their first two years of education at the Auro University campus at Surat.

The University will start its operations with the establishment of the School of Business with MBA and a BBA degree programs. The second school to start this year will be the School of Hospitality Management and will introduce the BSc Hospitality Management course. The Academic curriculum and the delivery is focused on the concept of Integral and transformational education where Mental, physical, vital and spiritual aspects are integrated into the educational philosophy. According to the Vice Chancellor of Auro University Dr. Kamlesh Misra, the first objective of the university is to help students move from a system of dependent memory to a system of independent thinking and problem solving. The University will strive to harness the highest potential in its students and help them become productive citizens of the community in which they live. Auro University will be the first University in the country to integrate general education as part of curriculum.
