Sure and Ruckus Wireless Deliver Smart Wi-Fi at Isle of Man TT Races
Sure and Ruckus Wireless keep fans on track with free Wi-Fi
Online, August 28, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Sure, the official mobile partner of the Isle of Man TT Races, teamed up with Silicon Valley based Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (NYSE: RKUS), a global supplier of advanced wireless systems for the rapidly expanding mobile Internet infrastructure market, to deliver state-of-the-art, reliable, high-performance wireless connectivity at key 'hotspot' points around the iconic TT Mountain Course, during this year's race event (25th May - 7th June).
Ruckus 'Smart Wi-Fi' equipment and technology was used across all of the official grandstand 'Fan Zones', which are situated at Creg Ny Baa, Crosby Jump and Ballacrye as well as the new viewing platform at Rhencullen, one of the fastest points on the course. Fans in the main TT Grandstand, the new Nobles Park Grandstand, the retail area in the TT paddock and the corporate hospitality unit were able to access free Wi-Fi during the race.
Ruckus ZoneFlex™ 7762 dual band outdoor access points (APs) were deployed to address the Wi-Fi requirements of the TT Mountain Course. The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi technology was selected because of its connectivity management capabilities, which can provide a high density of users with long-term, reliable wireless access so they could follow the developments during the race, as they happened, uninterrupted. Similar Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi systems have been successfully deployed at other outdoor events, including the world famous Sundance Film Festival and the UK Womad Music festival, as well as numerous sporting venues in the USA.
Andy Bridson, Chief Executive, Sure, stated that race fans benefitted from the partnership between the two companies and commented:
"Keeping in touch with information from around the course is critical where spectators cannot see all of the action, and the famous TT Mountain course threw up all kinds of challenges for doing that. As the event is entirely time-based, data access was key to allowing fans to track the action, while it was happening."
He continued:
"We worked closely in partnership with Ruckus to deliver a state-of-the-art Wi-Fi solution to provide coverage to large parts of the TT mountain course. As a locally based business, we have used our understanding of both the event and the island's terrain to deliver the most effective solution for the residents and visitors who were looking to keep up to date with all of the race data. Ruckus provided us with that solution."
