Swiftwick, Brentwood Morning Rotary Club And Japan's Consul-General Sent Off $150,000 Worth Of Socks To Japan's Earthquake And Tsunami Victims
Online, April 22, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The first production run of the new VIBEā¢ line of Compression Socks, which has not yet been released in America, was presented to the Brentwood Morning Rotary Club and sent by FedEx to the Kitakami Rotary Club of Japan. A whopping 862 pounds, or 14,642 pair of Swiftwick socks valued at $150,000, began the long journey today to Kitakami, Japan which is the closest we can get to the disaster area. This gift will arrive April 28 where Rotarians will distribute them.
Nashville is the home of Japan's Consul-General and there are many special connections between Tennessee and the people of Japan. Consul-General Hiroshi Sato said, "Thank you again for your generous donation. Those Japanese who are suffering in the Tohoku area will greatly appreciate your socks and kindness." Swiftwick does not have representation or distribution in Japan, no Japanese language packaging and no established relationships.
"This gift is from our production team, our staff, our retailers, and our customers who will have to wait a little bit longer for the arrival of this new line of socks," said Mark Cleveland, President of Swiftwick and an active Rotarian for over 20 years. "We are proud to offer Swiftwick products as one small comfort to people who only a few short weeks ago had their world turned inside out."
Kitakami City Government and Kitakami Rotary Club helped coordinate the arrival and distribution of the compression socks. Rotary President Mr. Nakamura said, "Japan finds a shortage of clothes including socks in evacuation places. Your goodwill will make the refugees happier than their present circumstances."
