TÃœV SÃœD Moves CDM Accreditation To India
Online, December 20, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Munich/Pune. In the future, TÃœV SÃœD will manage the validation and verification of CDM projects from India. In its 69th meeting, the Executive Board of the UNFCCC approved the relocation of the responsible entity from Munich to Pune. The DOE located at TÃœV SÃœD South Asia has already started operations.
"The relocation of the Designated Operational Entity (DOE) to India marks an important step which we are taking to cater to the significance of the newly industrialized countries (NICs) and the Asia Pacific Region for the Clean Development Mechanism", says Bratin Roy, Assistant Vice President of TÃœV SÃœD South Asia in Pune. The DOE is responsible for all CDM projects worldwide that are validated and verified by TÃœV SÃœD.
TÃœV SÃœD has been engaged in the area of climate change projects for over ten years and was amongst the first companies to be accredited as Designated Operational Entity (DOE) for the CDM and as Accredited Independent Entity (AIE) for Joint Implementation (JI) projects on behalf of the UNFCCC. While the CDM applies to climate-change projects in developing and newly industrialized countries, joint implementation projects are aimed at promoting climate-change measures in industrialized countries. TÃœV SÃœD was the first ever entity to be accredited for sectoral scopes 1 to 15 of the CDM.
In recent years, TÃœV SÃœD has massively expanded its international presence, in particular continuously strengthening its position in Asia Pacific. While the accreditation for Joint Implementation will remain at TÃœV SÃœD Industrie Service GmbH in Munich, the move of CDM accreditation to India represents a further step towards the strategic goals of the international group of companies.
"Although our CDM auditors will remain located at our subsidiaries in the individual regions, the responsibility for, and management of all CDM projects will move to TÃœV SÃœD South Asia in the future", explains Dr Boris Gehring, CEO of the Industry Service Division of TÃœV SÃœD AG. The relocation of the DOE is also of great symbolic importance: "It demonstrates that we do not see India, China and other Asian countries as an 'extended workbench', but as equal partners in our global networks."
At TÃœV SÃœD, over 80 members of staff are involved in the validation and verification of climate change projects, roughly 60 of whom deal with the realization of CDM projects. Since the start of activities, the auditors have processed more than 1,600 CDM verifications and validations. In 2011, TÃœV SÃœD employed 17,000-plus staff at more than 800 locations worldwide.
