Taber Cares Launches Monthly Charitable Giving Goals
OKC homebuilder commits to fundraising and volunteering for local groups.
Oklahoma City, OK, February 20, 2017 (Newswire.com) - When Taber LeBlanc founded Homes By Taber in 2000, his intention was to do more than build houses. He wanted a business that would be a valuable member the community, which meant giving back.
LeBlanc created the Taber Cares initiative to achieve that goal. For 2017, he and his team have committed to a fundraising campaign that would benefit one organization each month. For every home sold, Homes By Taber will donate $250 to the chosen charitable organization. The company was able to present a $6,250 check to the Oklahoma Youth Expo, an agricultural scholarship and leadership-training program for Oklahoma’s young people. The OYE presents the world’s largest junior livestock show each spring.
I know I can write a check, but that's a short-term solution. I want to use the power of my company and our relationships with our business partners to make an impact by being involved.
Taber Leblanc, President
In February, the Taber Cares initiative is supporting The Anna’s House Foundation, an organization that seeks to provide immediate, stable, and loving foster homes to Oklahoma County children in the state’s custody. Of Oklahoma’s 11,000 foster children, 2,500 live in Oklahoma County. Yet, only 500 of the state’s 2,500 foster homes are in this region. As a result, siblings are often separated, because there isn’t room to keep them together during this critical time. Homes by Taber is ready to see how large the check will be for their donation to support this organization.
Taber Cares is directed by Taber’s wife, Julie LeBlanc, who has taken on the full-time role to strengthen the company’s impact.
“Every department in our company has a say in the charities we support,” explains Julie. “In addition to our fundraising, we encourage everyone to volunteer their time, which is an equally precious gift to these groups.”
Giving back to the community isn’t new to Taber LeBlanc or his company. In the past two years, he has supported various charities, including Susan G. Komen Central & Western Oklahoma and the City Rescue Mission in Oklahoma City. His efforts for City Rescue began in 2014 when LeBlanc learned of some foster children who were facing the winter without warm coats or even bedding. He launched a coat drive that collected 300 new and gently used coats. The following year, his group gathered twice that number.
“I know I can write a check, but that’s a short-term solution,” he explains. “I want to use the power of my company and our relationships with our business partners to make an impact by being involved.”
Future charitable organizations to receive Taber Cares’s help include Infant Crisis Services, Wings, Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity, and Dress For Success.
