Tata Teleservices Limited Turns To Volubill For Real-Time Charging Enablement

CHARGE-IT™ enables charging model differentiation and better revenue assurance for mobile Internet services

London, United Kingdom- Volubill, a leading supplier of real-time charging and policy control applications for fixed and mobile service providers, has been chosen by Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) to reduce revenue leakage and support more granular data charging models. The enhanced charging capabilities are achieved by deploying Volubill's CHARGE-IT™ product and will allow TTSL to realize incremental revenue streams across multiple mobile browsing applications and service packages. CHARGE-IT's real-time network usage recording and charging functions increase the speed of all charging practices to enhance revenue assurance for mobile services.

As demand for bandwidth continues to grow at dramatic rates, the need for better segmentation and more adaptable charging models becomes essential. This, along with the deployment of policy control solutions, enables operators to reconnect the revenue model with the cost model for mobile data services, which is not necessarily the case today when you consider flat rate charging models combined with unbridled demand for bandwidth.

TTSL deployed Volubill's solution, in order to maximize charging abilities for the various types of Internet applications offered to its customers, including BREW, WAP and standard Internet protocols. The differentiated charging models and ability to monitor and charge for usage in real-time allow TTSL to reach new customers in smaller corners of the market. Further, increased profit margins for customized mobile internet services are realized, and revenue leakage caused by slow charging practices is eliminated.

A technology-independent platform, Volubill's CHARGE-IT provides support to increase flexibility and scalability for all types of communications service architectures. The software enables real-time management and analysis of subscriber usage for IP-based services. It provides capabilities for deep packet inspection (DPI), access management, service delivery, traffic shaping, and user experience management for both simple Internet access or premium value-added services.

"One consequence of the global economic slowdown has been that operators are focused on making more effective use of network resources these days," said John Aalbers, CEO, Volubill. "Tighter budgets are forcing operators to look at ways of deferring network upgrades as well as extracting more revenue from current investments For TTSL, the new system will allow for more tailored control of charging models across multiple service offerings ultimately leading to greater monetization opportunities for these services. Additionally, with the real-time abilities of our CHARGE-IT™ and CONTROL-IT products, they will be able track service usage better, and avoid revenue leakage and eliminate fraudulent usage - a critical step in maintaining profitability these days."
Tata Teleservices Limited is the largest company within Tata Group's communications industry. Incorporated in 1996, TTSL was the first provider to launch CDMA mobile services in India, and currently has more than 36 million subscribers with more than 35 million in the wireless sector. The company offers a full range of fixed, wireless and value added telephony services, including post-paid Internet, Wi-Fi access, enterprise services, 3-way conferencing and more.
