Taxicab Owner Recognized for 30 Years of Service

Online, September 18, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Today, Yellow Cab of the Desert, Inc. owner and former taxicab driver, Bill Meyers was recognized with an SRA Anniversary Award for 30 years of outstanding taxicab service in the Coachella Valley.

"He was at the inception of the taxicab industry in the Coachella Valley, and continues to shape the community through his efforts and experience as a owner of Yellow Cab of the Desert."

Bill Meyers is responsible for perhaps one of the most crucial taxi achievements in the Coachella Valley. He single-handedly over-turned an agreement for exclusivity at the Palm Springs Airport during a Palm Springs City Council Meeting with Sonny Bono. His efforts allowed all taxicab companies to work at the airport.

Meyers moved to the Coachella Valley in 1978, and five years later formed A Valley Cab with his father and uncle, starting with a fleet of just two sedans. The company evolved into A Valley CABousine. This progress included the introduction of an advanced technology dispatch system along with adding 14 more vehicles. In 2009, the established company merged with four other local taxicab companies to create Yellow Cab Co. of the Desert, Inc. He lives in La Quinta with his wife of 34 years, and spends his free time coaching football, his true passion.

According to Michael Jones, this award is the first of its kind and will set precedence for continued acknowledgement of mile stone anniversaries within the taxicab industry of the Coachella Valley.
