Taylor Station Surgical Center Announces Its Continued Effort to Achieve Colon Cancer Screening Goal

Taylor Station Surgical Center

Taylor Station Surgical Center today announced its continued effort with the American Cancer Society and The National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable to achieve the goal of screening 80% of adults 50 years old and older for colorectal cancer.

Taylor Station joined the promising program in 2017. Taylor Station Surgical Center’s commitment to the goal of the "80% by 2018" initiative is a shared goal led by the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT) to have 80% of adults regularly screening for colorectal cancer by 2018 and to continue the momentum.

“At Taylor Station, we know the thought of undergoing a colonoscopy may scare or embarrass some individuals. We take pride in the comfort and discretion we provide our patients. The vast majority of our patients who undergo a colonoscopy look back at the process and are happy that they did it. Our patients tend to agree the 'worst part' of the process is the preparation. Fortunately, improvements continue to be made in this area. Even though this may be the worst part of the actual process of the colonoscopy, it is mild and is one of the best preventative procedures one can have. After the colonoscopy procedure, most patients feel a peace of mind, knowing the polyps which could eventually cause colon cancer have been removed and made the procedure and its necessary 'clean out' steps worth it." – Thomas Kramer M.D.”

“80% by 2018” is an NCCRT initiative in which hundreds of organizations have committed to substantially reducing colorectal cancer as a major public health problem and are working toward the shared goal of 80% of adults aged 50 and older being regularly screened for colorectal cancer by 2018. Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. when men and women are combined, and a cause of considerable suffering among more than 134,000 adults diagnosed with colorectal cancer each year in the U.S. When adults get screened for colorectal cancer, it can be detected early at a stage when treatment is most likely to be successful, and in some cases, it can be prevented through the detection and removal of precancerous polyps. According to a 2015 study, if we can achieve 80% by 2018, 277,000 cases and 203,000 colorectal cancer deaths would be prevented by 2030.
