Online, June 4, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Teakworks4u, manufacturer and Internet based retailer of handcrafted teak for home, marine and commercial settings announces the addition of Plantation Teak, Garapa, Cypress and White Cedar to its list of available wood species. Teakworks4u has added these wood species to its signature wood - Burmese Teak.
According to company owner, Scott Biesanz, "These woods have many of the same characteristics of Burmese Teak with variations in color from light tan to dark golden brown, making our products suitable for virtually any setting."
Burmese Teak, Teakworks4u's signature wood, comes from old-growth teak and is harvested under strict environmental, social and economic standards. This dense hardwood has a high natural oil and silica content and is highly resistant to mold, fungus, decay, warping and shrinking. It comes from the heart of the tree so it is darker in color, lasts longer and requires little or no maintenance regardless of the environmental conditions.
Plantation Teak is semi-mature outer heartwood, the color of which is lighter than Burmese Teak and somewhat dull. It is very durable with natural oil content and is resistant to mold, fungus, decay, warping and shrinkage. The texture is coarse and oily to the touch. Teakworks4u uses FSC certified Plantation Teak from Costa Rica.
Garapa, also known as Brazilian Ash, is a dense hardwood that naturally resists rot, decay, termites, splinters, scratches and even fire. It has a light yellow to golden brown color that weathers to a light silvery gray unless sealers are applied.
Cypress, native to the southern United States, produces an oil called cypressine, which acts as a natural preservative, making it extremely resistant to harsh environmental conditions. Left untreated, cypress will weather to light pewter over time. Due to its light to dark honey color and straight grain, cypress complements most interior or exterior architectural styles from rustic to traditional to modern.
White Cedar from the American Atlantic region is a popular wood for indoor and outdoor use. Grown along swamp water basins, white cedar develops natural preservatives making it one of the most durable, moisture resistant, rot inhibiting woods available. Its pinkish-white tan color and even grain make it ideal for virtually every design style. If used outdoors, white cedar requires maintenance to slow the weathering process.
