Danger in Social Media
Austin Texas - Princess in Training (P.I.T.), Inc. will host a community information session on the Dangers of Social Media on June 9th, 2012 from 10am-2pm at Goodwill Industries of Central Texas Community Center 1015 Norwood Park Blvd. Austin, TX 78753. This event will be recorded by BW Films, LLC.
All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Each minor must have a media waiver signed in order to participate.
The session is free and open to the public. All participants must register. To register, go to: https://socialmedia101bypit.eventbrite.com/
The idea for this session came after one of our staff members had a close encounter when her relative was lured into the human trafficking and prostitution industry at the helms of a woman whom the young girl (age 12) befriended on Facebook.
Our goal is to create public awareness of the dangers youth may encounter on social media platforms, provide tools for parents to ensure they children are safe when using social media, and inform the public of law enforcement programs which monitor social media sites locally and nationally.
The guest speakers are Austin Police Chief, Art Acevedo and Allies Against Slavery representative, Annette Emery & Gavin Grounds of Barupay & Chairman of the BCS USA Section (BCS is the Chartered Institute for IT).
