Teen Writers Publish First Book And Support Local School
Online, March 3, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The R-5 High School in Grand Junction Colorado is excited to announce the release of Dare to Dream, a collection of short stories and poetry by the talented members of their Writers Force group.
For the past seven months the Writers Force has been working with local writers to compile a collection of their best work and get it published.
The nine young authors, Kirsten Verzani, Josh Walters, Morgan Fisher, Kristen Moore, Felicia Ferguson, Jenidy Clymer, Ethan Spencer, Crystal Johansen, and Katie Prickett, have spent a great deal of time not just writing, but learning the fundamentals of publishing from people who've been there.
"It's been such a privilege to work with these young writers," Says author and volunteer Sherry D. Ficklin, "They have so much talent and energy, it's been amazing to watch them push themselves and really work hard to make this book a reality."
Ficklin is just one of a team of teachers and volunteers working with the youngsters.
"It's really cool to see them so excited," Says Amy Hamilton, local reporter and volunteer.
After months of hard work, grueling revisions, and a crash course on marketing, printing, and distribution, their dream is finally a reality.
Dare to Dream: A collection of short stories and poetry will be hitting shelves in April 2011, and is now available as an e-book at both Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly back to the R-5 High School to help to continue to support wonderful, enriching programs like this one.
"With our schools facing significant budget cuts in the coming years, this sort of outside the box fundraising might be a great way to ensure programs like this don't completely disappear," Says Ficklin.
