Teenage Entrepreneur Nicholas Oddo Sets Out to Revolutionize Oxygen Production Industry
Nicholas Oddo is a top notch math and science student as a junior at Franklin Academy, a charter school in NC. He has been determined since 6th grade to make the IC engine more efficient. Throughout his journey he has obtained a US Patent, built numerous inventions, and made tangible scientific discoveries. Oddo is now looking forward to using his knowledge to build the future of his industry.
Wake Forest, NC, October 26, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Nicholas Oddo has always been a tinkerer. He did the unusual, and built a Skarstrom cycle pressure swing adsorption system that produced 3 LPM of medical purity oxygen in his garage.
His obsession of engineering started when his 6th grade science teacher went over a lesson about 4 stroke engines. Fascinated by how these devices worked, his teacher gave him contact to an engineer she knew. This marked a pivotal point of curiosity turning into obsessive passion. He soon found himself flipping through a textbook on engineering fundamentals, where he came across a discussion of how the use of pure oxygen could theoretically create a more efficient engine - but it was practically impossible with current technology.
He went on to create new technology in the field of oxygen production technology to solve this problem and eventually obtained US Patent No. 9,149,757 on October 6th, 2015 as a high school junior for his work.
Oddo has continued to succeed in the field, with 3 laboratories independently verifying the effectiveness of his monolithic zeolite honeycomb technology. It was shown that these new adsorbent beds had the same chemical separating performance as traditional zeolite pellets per gram with advantages such as 10x abrasian resistance, 36.7% higher density, and 3-5 times less pressure drop. He looks forward to carrying out this research in the future, and hopes to go to a university that values intellectual vitality and technical entrepreneurship.
