TensorFlight, a company based in Mountain View, California that provides actionable insights from aerial imagery, has just closed a seed round of funding. This seed round was led by Hemi Ventures, with Amy Gu from Hemi joining the TensorFlight’s board of directors. TensorFlight also received support from an earlier investor, Boost VC. TensorFlight technology automatically analyzes satellite, aerial, drone and street view imagery in order to automate slow and expensive manual in-person building inspections.

“We are honored to partner with Hemi ventures and excited about their focus on deep learning and insurtech,” said Robert Kozikowski, CEO of Tensorflight. “New funds will allow us to scale computer vision algorithms to cover properties globally and build the sales team to serve insurance customers.”

TensorFlight is looking to innovate how insures obtain important data about property. Worldwide, insurers face a problem accessing accurate and fresh data about properties, and currently, rely on manual inspection of properties. TensorFlight’s mission is to revolutionize P&C insurance by automating this process via computer vision. TensorFlight’s algorithms can automatically analyze global imagery captured by satellites, drones, and street view cameras, and quantify factors used in actuarial models such as the state of the building, roof shape, trees, building degradation and damages, solar panels and windows or activity around the property. This can lead to both faster and more cost-effective assessments of properties.

The company was founded by previous Google employees who possess an excellent track record working in big data and computer vision. Kozikowski worked previously on big data processing for Google Search and ranking insurance quotes for Google Compare. TensorFlight CTO, Zbigniew Wojna was part of computer vision teams beating world records in image classification and detection via neural networks and publishing high-caliber computer vision research.

Currently, TensorFlight has 10 employees working in offices in Mountain View and in Poland. Current clients of the company include four leading P&C insurers and reinsurers. To learn more about the company or looking at investing opportunities, visit TensorFlight.com
