Teraco Sets Sail for EMEA Customers

Teraco to participate in a global IT sailing event in the UK, joining some of the world's major IT and software companies

Cape Town, South Africa: 20 July 2009 - Teraco Data Environments, the first vendor neutral colocation facility in South Africa, is to co-sponsor a boat in the Silicon Cup with Guy Willner, co-founder and CEO of IXEurope (now Equinix Europe) who recently joined Teraco's board. Its contender will be called Mint Julep.

The Silicon Cup is the largest sailing event for the IT industry, giving hundreds of industry professionals across Europe, the Middle East and African (EMEA) region an opportunity to entertain customers, reward top-performing employees, build new contacts and support worthy causes through fundraising events. Now in its tenth year, this prestigious 2009 event will take place from 17 - 18 September in Cowes on the Isle of Wight in England.

The regatta, which in this tenth year is sponsored by Equinix, a global provider of data center services, will pit Teraco's considerable combined maritime expertise against the might of the English Channel.

"Attending this well-established IT networking event allows us to showcase our vendor neutral business on a global stage where many EMEA headquarters are based, and perhaps demonstrate that we know a little bit about sailing too in South Africa," said Tim Parsonson, Group CEO of Teraco Data Environments.

The recent liberalisation of South Africa's telecoms space and the arrival of six new international broadband cables in the next two years has created a new Internet world that will transform the way local companies connect their networks and conduct business.

Teraco's vendor neutral data centre enables companies, ISPs, value-added network services providers and carriers to take advantage of these benefits immediately.

The freedom and flexibility of unrestricted interconnect between companies within the data centre enables companies to easily connect to and switch between service providers of their choice. The truly neutral new environment creates new opportunities for partnerships between providers, devoid of any conflict of interest with Teraco. The attraction of a growing number of blue chip companies to the vendor neutral data centre model enables carriers to reach new markets.

"While South Africa is only one year into its telecoms liberalisation, overseas, businesses like Equinix and Telehouse have become exciting hubs for carriers and service providers to do business. We look forward to building Teraco into a similarly successful venture with the contribution of Guy's considerable expertise," concludes Parsonson.
