Following tides of disbandment and reunions, this June will witness five of the most popular 70s bands performing on a single stage in Northern Lights at That 70’s Concert. Folks are gearing up for a five hour extravaganza that’ll feature some of the best disco songs of the century; “That’s The Way (I Like It)” and “Y.M.C.A.”, to begin with.

The stars of the concert will be the five prominent bands of the disco era, the ones who have given the world the most memorable dance music, the ones who go by the names KC and the Sunshine Band, Kool & the Gang, Village People, A Taste of Honey, and Rose Royce. The Golden Palm Star bearers, KC and the Sunshine Band gained popularity with their number “That’s The Way (I Like It)”, a song that still makes people groove, young and old alike. Kool & the Gang are well known for their jolly-good music that punctuates “Celebration” and “Jungle Boogie” – a music that sold more than a million copies and earned them gold discs by the RIAA. Who doesn’t recognize the people dressed in costumes that strikingly represent (and slightly ridicule) the masculine culture of America? Village People danced their way to stardom not only by their appearances, but also by their catchy tracks like “Macho Man” and “Y.M.C.A.”, which also holds a Guinness World Record. A Taste of Honey, true to its word, is a rather enticing combination of soul music with R&B and disco. Their song, “Boogie Oogie Oogie” conquered the Number One position on Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks, and also won them a Grammy Award. A band with an off-center start and an even atypical journey towards fame, Rose Royce came up with their song “Car Wash”, which was the soundtrack for a movie of the same name. This song not only got them recognition amongst the American audience, but also earned them a Grammy for the Best Motion Picture Score Album of the Year.

The venue, Northern Lights, is the focal point of all kinds of crazy entertainment in Minnesota. Offering numerous amenities and entertaining events all through the year, there couldn’t have been a better place to host this celebrated concert.
