The AAMA installs Monica Case, CMA (AAMA), as Speaker of the House

The American Association of Medical Assistants® installed Monica Case, CMA (AAMA), as the 2021-2023 AAMA Speaker of the House in Houston, Texas, at the 65th AAMA Annual Conference. In this capacity, Case, a resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, represents medical assistants and CMAs (AAMA)® across the nation.

Medical assisting is one of the nation's careers growing much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. Medical assistants work in outpatient healthcare settings. Employers are seeking and recruiting these allied health professionals because of their uniquely diverse clinical and administrative patient-centered training.

"It is an honor to serve this association, profession and medical assistants nationwide during a time of great change and innovation in the healthcare environment," says Case. "The CMA (AAMA) sets the bar for medical assisting excellence and plays an integral role in the healthcare delivery team due to the unique blend of competence, knowledge and versatility. My goal is to spread awareness of the vital part in quality healthcare and patient safety we provide now and in the future."

Case brings a great deal of experience to her office. She graduated from the Chattanooga State Community College medical assisting program in 1987 and is currently serving on the advisory board. Case has been a practicing CMA (AAMA) since 1989. For the past 30 years, she has been employed by Chattanooga Family Practice. During the first 27 years of her career, she worked directly for Robert Drake, MD, as section leader. For the past three years, her role has been a quality care coordinator and clinical trainer.

Case has served in many capacities for the AAMA, including 2018-2021 AAMA Vice Speaker of the House and 2016-2018 AAMA Trustee. She also has served as the chair or a member of many AAMA committees, task forces and strategy teams, including those for awards, partnerships, membership, leadership and assessment-based certificates. She has also served as a delegate to the AAMA Annual Conference, and the president of the Tennessee state society and Chattanooga chapter.

The Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)® — or CMA (AAMA) — credential represents a medical assistant who has been credentialed through the Certifying Board of the AAMA. The Certifying Board was awarded accreditation by the International Accreditation Service under ISO/IEC Standard 17024:2012, the global benchmark for personnel certification bodies, thus distinguishing the CMA (AAMA) from all other medical assisting certifications.
