The Able Cane Carrier
Online, April 23, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Millions of Americans use assistive devices to help them with mobility and independence, with canes being by far the most widely used mobility device. One disadvantage when using a cane is that a person may have difficulty carrying items because he or she has only one arm/hand available. There is now a new product that allows cane-users to carry items easily. The Able Cane Carrier is a basket designed to be attached to a four-prong walking cane. It gives users an easy, hands-free way to transport items when unable to use the other hand. Televised test marketing has been completed indicating strong consumer interest in the Able Cane Carrier.
The Patent Pending Able Cane Carrier was invented by Timothy Hurley of Chicago, IL, who said, "The easily installed kit includes the basket, a wood bar and bracket rig, and strips of the hook and loop system The basket is an attractive, woven unit made from a durable wicker material. The bar and bracket serve as the support base for the basket. The Velcro strips hook the top of the basket around the support bar. This provides a secure connection ad also allows for a quick removal if needed."
The inventor added, "One need only to affix the support bar to an existing cane with the bracket rig and loop the basket around the wood. Items are then placed in the basket and the person is ready to go."
