The American Association of Medical Assistants Board of Trustees Appointed New President

Nationally recognized medical assistant organization announced Patty Licurs, CMA (AAMA), CPC, as the new president at the 2021 AAMA Annual Conference

The Board of Trustees of the American Association of Medical Assistants® (AAMA) announced the appointment of Patty Licurs, CMA (AAMA), CPC, as the organization's newly elected 2021-2022 president at the 65th AAMA Annual Conference in Houston, Texas. Licurs' strategic and innovative thinking will guide the organization's mission to provide quality resources and educational opportunities for all medical assistants nationwide.

"After years of diligent work on the chapter, state and national levels, I am honored to be appointed the American Association of Medical Assistants' 2021-2022 president," says Licurs. "I look forward to working with the organization's staff and Board of Trustees and to representing and serving our members. My goal this year is to fulfill the mission of the AAMA and make a positive impact for medical assistants working in the healthcare field."

Licurs has been an AAMA member and a CMA (AAMA)® since 1997. Licurs has worked in many areas in the healthcare industry, mainly with the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, where she has been employed for 30 years. Licurs has served the Spartanburg Chapter of Medical Assistants, South Carolina Society of Medical Assistants, and the AAMA in many capacities, including as chair and member of several committees on all three levels.

Licurs previously worked for Medical Group of the Carolinas Vascular Access Services, performing both administrative and clinical duties. Licurs currently works as a certified professional coder (CPC) for the Medical Group of the Carolinas' inpatient and emergency medicine practices and for HealthRecon Connect.

In 2018, Licurs earned the CPC credential through the American Academy of Professional Coders and recertified in 2020. She received her Associate in Applied Science degree in administrative office technology from Spartanburg Community College. Licurs has been a member of the American Academy of Professional Coders since she was a student.
