The Association for Behavior Analysis International Comes to Portland

ABAI Will Host Its Seventh Annual Autism Conference, Novel Autism Solutions for Practitioners, Parents, and Researchers, in Portland, OR at the end of January.

The Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) will host its Seventh Annual Autism Conference January 25-27, 2013, at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront Hotel Portland. The conference is expected to attract attendees from around the world, including scientists, applied researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, teachers, parents, and consultants.

Registration will be open to association members and nonmembers on site starting at 2 pm, January 24, 2013. Credentialed members of the news media may attend free of charge with advance approval.

This conference will feature research and best practices of relevance to the treatment of children and adults on the autism spectrum. In addition to invited presentations by distinguished scholars, attendees will have the opportunity to review current research at two poster sessions. Conference attendees will also be able to browse a bookstore and exhibit booths.

Marjorie H. Charlop will present a workshop on effective parent training programs, and Meme Hieneman will offer a workshop on engaging parents in behavioral interventions. Other invited speakers include Val Demiri, Anastasia Dimitropoulos, V. Mark Durand, Wayne Fisher, Sabrina Freeman, Peter Gerhardt, Kammy Kramer, Glynis Murphy, Cathleen Piazza, Sharon Reeve, Henry Roane, Robert Ross, Aubyn Stahmer, Jonathan Tarbox, Bridget Taylor, Travis Thompson, and Jennifer Zarcone.

Both conference workshops and 8 out of 10 invited presentations have JUST been approved by the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology as professional development activities for speech-language pathologists, speech-language pathology assistants, and audiologists. Fifteen hours will be available for separate purchase. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) will accept these professional development credits toward its required 30 Certificate Maintenance Hours.
