The Best Fall Fairs and Festivals in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire

Lakes Region, NH - Fairs and festivals are some of visitors' favorite things about the Lakes Region during fall. The green leaves transform into a rainbow, farms harvest the last crops before winter, and there are plenty of events to celebrate the autumn season.

One thing fall is perfect for is celebrating local artisans. Crisp fall weather and changing leaves make the perfect background for craft shows, one the Lakes Region's most popular type of events, considering the high quality work put forth by local artisans. With everything from pottery, jewelry, paintings, and photography to soaps, lotions, jams, jellies, and pickles, New Hampshire locals bring their best creations for visitors' perusal. The events themselves vary as widely as the goods they offer, from rustic fairs honoring rural farm traditions to the massive gathering of over 100 booths that is the 15th Annual Autumn Craft Festival at Mill Falls Marketplace in Meredith, NH on October 5-6. In addition, make sure to visit the Autumn Craft Show at the Tanger Outlets in Tilton, NH and the Leaf Peeper's Arts and Crafts Show at the North Conway Community Center October 19-20.

Craft fairs aren't the only events happening in the Lakes Region during the fall months that highlight culture, harvests, and tradition. For example, the NH Highland Games at Loon Mountain Resort in Lincoln, NH is the largest Scottish festival in the Northeast and one of the most popular events of the year in the Lakes Region. This festival celebrates everything Scottish, including food, music, culture, dancing, athletics, and more. For a different kind of culture, visit The King Pine Music Fest at The King Pine Ski Area in East Madison, NH from September 21-22: regional bands will be there representing all sorts of music genres like rock, blues, funk, jazz, and more. While the music lovers are at the Music Fest, those searching for family fun will want to be at the Harvest Festival at the Enfield Shaker Museum in Enfield, NH on September 21. There will be horse-drawn wagon rides and haystack prize hunts as well as opportunities to make your own cider, butter, ice cream, candles and other traditional crafts.

Fall wouldn't be complete without a traditional town agricultural fair or Oktoberfest celebration, though. For antique car parades, tractor pulls, rides, concessions, fair food, and more, visit the 103rd Anniversary of the Sandwich Fair in Sandwich, NH October 12-14, and for beer, bratwurst, and oompah music, head to Oktoberfest at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH October 12-13. Enjoy peak fall foliage and German culture with a stein-holding competition and cornhole tournament for adults, as well as fun games and a water balloon launching contest for kids.

These events represent the highlights of the fairs and festivals happening this autumn in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, but there are many more events to attend. For more events, itinerary suggestions, and more, visit www.lakesregion.org.
