The Biblical Archaeology Society Presents Its 2012 Israel Tour: Exclusive Israel

Online, April 12, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Biblical Archaeology Society announces the launch of its October 2012 historical and archaeological tour in Israel. The program features a series of lectures by some of the most eminent Biblical archaeologists and scholars in the field, including Professor Aren Maeir of Bar Ilan University, Dr. Gideon Hadas, director of excavations at Ein Gedi, Professor Gabriel Barkay of Bar Ilan University and Professor Yosef Garfinkel of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who recently discovered the famous ostracon at Khirbet Qeiyafa-possibly the earliest known example of written Hebrew.

The Biblical Archaeology Society's Exclusive Israel program takes place entirely on site in Israel, and includes visits to historically significant sites such as: Caesarea, where the ancient world's largest artificial harbor attests to the extraordinary achievements of Roman engineering; the hilltop ruins of the Masada fortress, where a small group of Jewish zealots defied an entire Roman legion; Sepphoris, known as the "Glory of Galilee" and the location of the famous mosaic called the "Mona Lisa of the Galilee"; and Jerusalem, where three of the world's largest religions converge in history.

The Exclusive Israel program itinerary includes special behind-the-scenes access to ancient sites and their excavators. Participants will be able to explore the wonders of Israel while learning from and engaging with some of the world's foremost experts in Biblical history and archaeology.

The Biblical Archaeology Society's educational Israel program will be led by one of the country's most sought after guides. Danny Herman, an Israeli native, lecturer and former archaeologist, is a licensed guide and has both B.A. and M.A. degrees in archaeology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The author of multiple articles, Mr. Herman has served as a consultant for a Travel Channel production on the Copper Scroll and the caves of Qumran, and spent time as an archaeology guide for the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Shrine of the Book and the Bible Lands Museum.
